Engine light; Recommendation for OBD2 Scan tool

2012 Countryman, 70k original miles, pitting on the cam lobes, engine light will
not clear out, can't SMOG the car for sale.  Please share your suggestions.  
Also, can you recommend the correct OBD2 Scan tool?

Only option is to fix it so you can sell it. Of course you could just sell it for parts or to a wrecking yard cause it not worth much the way it is and it will cost a lot to fix it right.

If you can trade it in, as is, that's what I'd do. You won't get as much for it but you'll be rid of it and it won't cost you any money. Jim
