Try this. It will re set the PCM, Powertrain Control Module. Remove the black-wired negative cable from the battery. Turn the ignition key to the "on/crank" position for 30 seconds, then put the ignition key to the "off" position. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn the ignition key until the Durango starts and allow it to idle. Check the dashboard for the malfunction indicator light status.

I've tried I've tried that did not work I have a 1998 Dodge Durango I just installed a new transmission it has a new battery and a brand new starter turn the ignition lights come on on the dash starter does not engage. I consider myself a pretty good mechanic but this one is stumping me something fierce

Sounds like you didn't hook up the selonoid wire try turning the key to the on position and get under the rig and jump it from the battery side to the selonoid or make a remote starter it's the same concept

This worked for my in 99 Durango. I removed the negitive. Turnd On ingnision for 1 min. Tuned it off. Then reconverted battery. Security was off. I had to get jump start from passer by. But it working now.
