Ignition keys not turning

Asked by Steven Aug 21, 2020 at 09:13 PM about the 2008 Chrysler Sebring Touring Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My ignition key has refused to turn. It has
done this in the past but has been
awhile...possibly worn out or would the key
fob dead battery be the cause?

I have an 04 from the previous generation and I’ve had that happen I had to end up hitting the key with a light hammer blow while it was in the switch. Not sure what your key looks like but this worked for me after mine got stuck at the gas station and had to be towed. I was so frustrated until I found that trick on another forum. Idk if this applies to third gen sebrings but it’s easy enough to try if you can.

If your key is the electronic one maybe you have a backup copy that is just a metal key that could withstand a firm tap with a standard claw hammer.

I know “hit it with a hammer” sounds like the worst advice lol but that’s what I thought too until it worked
