What is under this cover

You may have a rear main oil seal leak. To repair that would mean pulling either the engine or the transmission. How bad is the leak?

Took the cover off and it looks to be a sensor, there is a wire plugged into it.

Possibly. Oil pressure senders can develop a leak so you might want to replace it and see if that fixes the leak.
