Inside where your his band was working, if you jave have the chipped key anti theft system, around the key switch is a round thing called a transducer. It read a the chip from the key. He may have unplugged it or broken it. Also, the horn honking is the anti theft system working. Your new key must have a chip in it that matches the old one. If you bought a new key you might dig the chip out of the handle of the old key and swap it with the new, un programmed key. If you are using your spare key it must be the chipped key to work. Some cars have back up keys that only unlock the doors.

By the way, thete were typos I didn't catch. The chip may be a little round glass tube, half inch long, 1/8 inch wide, it will have a tiny chip inside. The whole tube is considered the chip.

Buy a new key and have it programmed to your car. If you have a spare key, use it.

You might hold the old key by the transponder and turn the ignition to test or something.
