Question type: General

Hello, im new here, hopefully someone
could help me find out what is wrong with
my car. I have a 06 bmw 325I, I took it to
the shop to get 2 of my oil leaks and also to
get a new starter. When I got it back I took it
for a spin, but then just out of nowhere it
shut down, then I tried to turn it back on
and start with no problem, so now its doing
the same thing, even on park it shuts off
sometimes it last long running but then
shuts off. I already put new battery,
alternator is good. Does any one have any
clue on this. It wasnt doing this before they
fixed the oil leaks and put a new starter.

I'd take it back to the shop or go to a reputable BMW dealer. I also know if you didn't purchase the battery from BMW itself that can lead to issues. Believe it or not you MUST use a BMW battery. Those cars are very sensitive to aftermarket parts

Probably never even needed a new starter. A new battery if it was an original battery that was never changed before. Doesn't need to be a BMW battery just has to have similar capacity and dimensions to fit. On many BMWs since 2006 you have to register the new battery as well. Still wouldn't cause your car to shut down just wanted to mention that it could cause premature wear out of your new battery. What is causing it to shut down is usually a software issue in the DME. Needs software to be reset or firmware to be updated. BMWs have a lot of these software issues and bugs. Could also be a crankshaft sensor gone bad or a bad MAF. To test a MAF sensor just disconnect the MAF sensor and start your car. If it runs and doesn't die then dies when you reconnect the MAF sensor then your MAF sensor is bad and the culprit and need to get a new MAF sensor or one from a junkyard.
