Fuse inside the fuse box gets really hot for power seats

Asked by MA2020 Oct 26, 2020 at 01:40 AM about the 2005 Cadillac DeVille Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My fronts Seats won't move, the fuse gets so
hot I blistered my finger after only running the
engine for a minute. I took the fuse and
placed it in the power windows slot and it
worked. So the fuse is good. The seat had
been moved forward for another driver, and
when I went to put it back it would not work
(2 hours later) any idea on what would cause
a fuse to get blistering hit and not work in the
position for the seats but would work in
another slot?

The seat motor is not functioning and may be jammed or stuck in the "full forward" position. The heat is being generated by the fuse as it approaches its max rating and will eventually fail. Be sure the correct amperage fuse is being used and look for why the motor is jammed or failing, Replace it if it is failing.

I think you have a short. A wire may be pinched under the seat.
