F150 gearing down

My f150 has geared down excessively twice. I came
into sharp curve at highway speed applying brakes
and it geared down to 2nd and did it once going
slow. The vehicle lurched. I just bought it. 70k miles.
Any help appreciated

Check the net, there are many similar problems with the 6 speed tranny in your vehicle. Range sensor could be contaminated with buildup. If the problem is with a solenoid on the valve body the entire valve body will have to be replaced as the solenoids cannot be serviced separate from the body. The part is about 1200 bucks. With labor and a fluid/filter change you'd be looking at about two grand.
