Power door locks fail intermittently.

Asked by Reggie Sep 02, 2014 at 07:13 PM about the 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The power door locks on my Jeep Grand Cherokee work only about 50% of the time.
When they stop working, none of the power door locks will function, using either the
remote, or the power door lock switch.

The biggest problem with this is while the passenger doors can be locked manually, the
liftgate can only be controlled using the remote or the power door lock switch.

Any ideas?

I should add that I've replaced the fuses a couple of times, with no improvement. Also, even when the door locks aren't functioning, the liftgate button on the remote always works. This helps me to know that the remote is definitely working. Lastly my local dealer hasn't been able to resolve this, though I have no confidence at all in their integrity.

I had this happen with a client for whom we cut and programmed a new AFTERMARKET remote. This takes defective OE Design out of hte picture for the FOB, and time since my two options for client were either program a new circuit board and swap it in his new key/shell or to do a complete diagnostics report and study the results for causation ( 150.00 minimum ), I opted to eat one circuit board and throw parts at the problem. If it recurs, not my doing and I am still the good guy who was VERY generous to a good client.
