Battery light came on. Car died and would not start back.

Asked by Jessica Jan 11, 2018 at 10:11 AM about the 2010 Chrysler Sebring Touring Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car just had a new battery put in
about a month ago. Last night the
battery light came on and the car
would not change gears. I pulled
over and turned the car off. It started
back and made it about 10 miles.
The car died. This morning the car
started without any problem but the
check engine and the battery light
are both on. What can it be?

Battery light indicates a problem with the charging system. Possibly a bad alternator, slipping or missing belt or a wiring issue. I would inspect the belt and then have the alternator tested. Testing can be done for free at a local auto parts store.

Yeah get the alternator tested, either it or the voltage regulator may be bad and causing you to lose electrical power while driving. Like Bob suggested, any auto parts store will test them for free. I would also not drive this car anywhere else, it can leave you stranded.

I have this same car and I’m having the same issue. What did your issue end up being?

what are the cheapest ways to find out if it's the wiring on the alternator is to replace every single wire make the contact secure with all new wires and have it tested then drive with it cuz the only way you're going to really know what's going on is when you're driving it it does not have any problem idling obviously and what does everybody think about the battery in the wheel well what's up with that, what's wrong with people these days .car manufacturers are Loco in the Cabeza. nothing like going around your elbow to get to your where you don't hang your hat...thank you for sharing. My 2008 Chrysler sebring is doing the samething. I put a new battery in it and everything was fine. Now 2 days ago the battery light, check engine light and abs light came on and I was loosing power and radio went off. I got someone to charge it and I made it back home and went to parts store and they checked everything and said my alternator is fine then tonight it was driving fine and all the lights came on, my head lights went off, and I could only go 3 mph. Got it towed to my house and it wouldn't crank and now I come outside to crank it and everything is running fine but check engine light is on. HELP ME WHATS GOING ON
