2010 Honda Accord Thermostat

Asked by GuruDVRZGJ Aug 31, 2024 at 05:13 PM about the 2010 Honda Accord EX-L V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The thermostat gauge on my car keeps dropping while I'm driving then it slowly
and gradually goes back to normal. Never overheats but keeps dropping
intermittently. I've replaced the sensor but do I need to do it again or could it be
the thermostat?

A new thermostat would be the first and easiest solution , But you should get an OEM one from the dealer or on line . It will be more expensive You can not trust a $14** thermostat from auto zoo . The old stat is opening up when it shouldn't and the computer thinks it's cold or something

If the thermostat has never been changed, then that's the first thing to do and use Honda parts, make sure you get all the air out of the cooling system.

I'm seeing two possible locations for the coolant temperature sensor. Either on the radiator or at the thermostat housing. This could mean you have two. One for the gauge on the dash and another for the computer. Some vehicles have this type of set up. Also, the correct thermostat is a 170°F thermostat. Look for a second coolant temperature sensor and if you have one check the wiring going to it before you replace the sensor. If you don't have a second sensor then move on to the thermostat. Jim
