Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Ford Escape Limited that I
recently purchased. It came with only one
key and no remote fob to unlock the doors
as you approach the vehicle. I purchased a
remote that said it was compatible for my
vehicle. The vehicle enters the program
mode, remote programs. Remote only
works insidethe vehicle. I've replaced the
battery in the remote. I've done the
electrical reset by disconnecting the
battery for over 30 minutes. Tried
reprogramming. Still only works if I'm
sitting in the vehicle. I get out, close the
door. Standing next to the door, the remote
is unresponsive. What is wrong?
These are the part numbers that are
compatible for the three button remote that
I purchased: 8L3Z-15K601-AA, F8DB-
15K601-AA, 2L3T-15K601-AA, 2L3T-
15K601-AB
The four button remote start fob part
number is: 2W7Z-15K601-BA
If the it needs the second part number,
would the first part number fobs not be
compatible? Based on VIN, one ford parts
site stated the second part fob. Most
remote sites state the first. How do I know
which part is correct?

I did follow those steps. All of the locking and unlocking of the doors occurred in that sequence. After the ignition was turned back to off in the last step, the locks cycled again as they should. I tried the remote while sitting in the car. Lock and unlock both triggered. I get out close the door, press one of the buttons and nothing happens. I replaced the battery in this new remote. I also did the electrical reset, by disconnecting the battery for more than 30 minutes and attempted reprogramming again. Same exact thing happened. Remote works while sitting inside the vehicle, but when I get out and close the door. Nothing happens.
