It does appear that they are equal in HP. The only difference I see is looks. I really like the G8 GT look. I still think I'll keep my 2004 GP GTP.

The GP GXP and G8 GT are hardly equals in terms if horsepower, handling, and overall quality. The G8 GT had about 60 extra horses (and probably 100 lb. ft. of torque), and is rear wheel drive. Handling is far and away better on the G8, and fit and finish is top notch. Think of the G8 as a BMW M5 on the cheap!

It's a 4-door GTO and then some. I own a 2004 GTO (yeah, the "slow" one), and the G8 is underpinned by an updated platform/chassis with better handling.

The 04 GP GTP has 260 hp The G8 GT has 360 hp and the GXP has 415 hp.

Their was a GXP Grand Prix that had a 5.3 V8 with just over 300 HP. But it was still FWD. The G8 GT and GXP with V8 and RWD is a BIG upgrade. I had an 04 GTP Comp G and the G8 GT is a much better car. Handling is amazing and the power is so much fun.

no grand prix are garbage and the G8 is the one and only nice car pontiac has now that the trans am and gto are no more.

This car has a corvette engine. The new Camaro SS has the same engine. It is Reportedly the most powerful Pontiac ever, but the car is really a Holden Commodore with a Pontiac body. It is a unique auto in the Pontiac line, and not a GTO with four doors. GTO also was a Holden product, but a lower level machine than the G8 GXP. Holden is an Australian company, which is a GM subsidiary. They are known for making performance vehicles- In the movie Mad Max- the car driven by Mad Max was a Holden.

I'VE OWNED SEVERAL FOX BODY MUSTANGS WITH HEADS INTAKE ALL THE ABOVE, I OWN A 2009 GT G8 NOW FOR JUST SEVERAL MONTHS FASTEST CAR I HAVE OWNED AN YOU GET THE HANDLING AN LUXURY AS THE 2007 BMW 525 XI IF HAD ALL WHEEL DRIVE AS THE BMW AN THE LEATHER QUALITY AN A 6 SPEED MANUAL OH MAN!!! BUT I HAVE THE AUTO AN IT STILL WILL GET AWAY FROM YA STOCK GRADS HOLDEN AN FOUR DOOR GTO IS AN INSULT PULL THE TWO DOOR TO THE LINE. WHATS SAD IS AULSTALIANS BIULD IT AN HAVE TO SPEND A WOPING 20,000 MORE THAN IN THE STATES CHEAPER FOR THEM TO BUY HERE AN SHIP BACK IF IT WAS MAN FIVE YEARS AGO BETTER HOLD ON TO THOSE G8'S AN GXPS. I WANT A MANUL TRANS OUT OF GXP
