Replacing Passenger Airbag OFF indicator light

Asked by Guru9BHB3P Jun 19, 2021 at 07:05 PM about the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L Limited FWD

Question type: Car Customization

My replacement car audio removes the clock/passenger airbag indicator.  I'd
like to splice a flush mount LED indicator elsewhere on dash to retain the
passanger airbag "OFF" indicator feature.  Is a simple splice all that is needed
to do this?

I do not believe there is any law regarding modifying your own AB system. Selling the car that way might be illegal.

There are also other considerations. Your insurance company might not like it and in some states you might not pass inspection.

It is illegal to sell a vehicle that you have knowingly disabled the airbag system. Whether you disclose that fact or not. My concern here is with altering the system. One of the things the airbag computer checks is the resistance values on the different wires in the system. Because the airbags can be deadly if not deployed properly any variations in the resistance value of the system will set a trouble code, disable the airbag system altogether for that ignition cycle, and illuminate the airbag light on the dash. If it were me I'd leave it alone or let a pro handle this for you. Hope that helps! Jim
