2008 Accord 2.4 timing chain BROKE
I was driving around 5 mph when my car died. I got codes p0340 and p0365, I
had a mechanic crack it open to see the CHAIN was snapped. I am not dealing
with a BELT. What could have caused the metal chain to break in two?
Loss of oil to the valve train, timing chain guide failure, bent crankshaft.
toast.
I've bought cars that have had NO oil change, this sounds like to be one of them~ think about it, 2008-2023 = 15 years. a faithful owner would change oil, every 3 months or perhaps a dozen fill-ups~

All available engines in the "08 Accord are interference engines and you likely bent valves. Have the mechanic assess damages and provide an estimate to repair or replace with a used engine for lower cost. Chains don't often break/snap, but if you put a lot of miles on them, the metals can weaken and be vulnerable. I'd think that a replacement would run around three grand. that's less the the car's worth if it's in otherwise excellent condition.
How many miles are on the vehicle? If you have a lot of miles on the vehicle it probably just wore out. Personally I wouldn't bother replacing the engine on a 15 year old vehicle. I'd replace the vehicle. Especially if it does have a lot of mileage on it. Jim
