Check the 10amp ETCS fuse under the hood. Should be a fuse box at driver side of engine. Look under/top of cover for fuse designation. Look at fuse carefully....do you see a GAP inside the fuse? Replace fuse. Get back with result.
Already checked fuses that one was good found none blown
Ok....good. Now we need to check to see if there is Voltage on both sides of that fuse when the key is on. Then we need a wiring diagram to check for voltage at the correct wire at the ETC Motor on the Throttle Body. I suspect you have an OPEN circuit in the 12v supply to the ETC. Get back to us with your thoughts.
Sorry takes so long to reply my husband works graveyard shift so hours to work on car are limited tues thru sat. First we bought a haynes book no wiring diagram for the etc motor in book. He got to the wire harness at the etc he was using a test light as his volt meter wasnt working the only wire that lit up was the black wire im getting a new volt meter today to test properly. Where do I get the wiring diagram ? Thanks so much for your help.
You should not be using a test light in a Computer controlled circuit. You should be using a Digital Volt Ohm Meter. Wal-Mart has them for less than $20.00. The test light is OK to use to check fuses. That 10amp ETCS fuse should light the light on both sides with the key ON. The wires at the Throttle Body....better to use the voltmeter. Check the voltage at each wire with the key on. Write down the readings. Have someone step on the gas pedal all the way and again write down the readings. Get back to us with results.
Update.....do a Google search of...."Toyota P2118". Open up the second hit......".(PDF) DTC P2118 Throttle Actuator Control Motor Current Range" That PDF File tells you how to fix your vehicle. Check that ETCS FUSE....if it is blown.....check under the fuse box for "wild life" damage.
Engine is a 4 cylinder 2.4 we will purchase correct meter tomorrow.
Thank you so much for your help but as my husband has been held for overtime which has narrowed time to spend checking and has afforded a bit more money we have decided to just have car be diagnosed for us. Thank you again for all the helpful, quick responses.
OK....good. Let us know what the ultimate fix is for this issue. Good Luck.
