Have you checked the refrigerant level? You may just be low and the refrigerant needs to be filled. Use a refill can with a pressure gauge. It will tell you the status.

Coolant level full. Just had new waterpump installed. Since then, the temp gauge is pegged beyond the hot mark and i am only getting hot air with the temperature setting to cool. Also replaced the temperature sensor.
Could be caused by air in your cooling system from the water pump installation. The would cause the water not to circulate freely.
