I've been having problems replacing my brake light switch

Asked by Guru9G1TG6 Jun 09, 2023 at 12:14 AM about the 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I put the bushing and switch together I can't get the pin in. No matter how
hard I try to compress the peddle for the brake and the arm to the power brake,
I just can't get it there. I've try white grease, I've loosen both the master
cylinder, and power brake unit. Any ideas? looking for some help.

After market parts may not perfectly match , you may have to customize once you find the problem

Believe it or not Ford has been using the same style switch for decades! My 2008 Grand Marquis has one! Before you put the new switch on you must move the rod going to the power booster to the left. That rod should be in between the slotted and ring parts of the new switch. Not behind them. In other words the power booster rod should not be next to the brake pedal. Then push the switch assembly next to the pedal and insert the pin. If adjustment is needed, pull the brake pedal outward. BTW, when installing the new switch the brake pedal should not be depressed. Hope that helps! Jim
