2007 subaru wrx sti engine swap

Asked by SubieLouie Jan 08, 2020 at 06:24 PM about the 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Turbo AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I've got a 07' sti. Intercoded piping, straight pipe
exhaust, stage 2 Cobb tuner, rebuilt tranny >20k.
Engine is stock, I'm guessing the EJ25? Question
(problem) starts here...Oil has been spewing into
bay, thought it was a bad HG. But come to find out
its the crank case and bad piston ring on cylinder
4. Oil leaving the dip stick. What would my best
route be? Just scrap engine and upgrade to
something meaner, or better saving money on
rebuilding current engine? Please, any help is
appreciated.

Chase a solid used motor, as splitting these blocks is best left for master wrenches who have a lot of time on their hands and prior experience.

Gotcha. Would getting a slightly better engine say a iag stage 2 or a OEM be a viable option? I have a daily and if this is the case i could park it and wait for a better motor?

I'd stick w/ exact OEM match so that you don't have to retune, swap exhaust, ECM, harnesses, etc. Keep it simple here, as it's a pressure cooker, eh?

Correct. Pressure blowing oil out dipstick. So better off getting a exact EJ25 then? Straight swap, same tolerances. And suppose new crankcase and all oil lines etc.?
