SAAB 2003 93 SE Convertible. How to lower the top manually. Need to fill fluid in motor.

Asked by 1KrazyKat Oct 30, 2014 at 02:53 PM about the 2003 Saab 9-3 SE Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My top wont close completely.  It's 2 inches away to lock latch.  I can still here the motor but top doesn't move.  I think I need fluid in the motor located behind the back seat.  But I read the top must be down when you fill the fluid and bleed out the air in the lines.

So my question is.... How does one lower the top manually for a 2003 Saab 93 SE Convertible?

The top may be operated manually. Unlatch the rear seat backrest and tip it forward. 2. Lower the lever for manual operation. When the lever is lowered, all electric motors are disconnected and the top can be raised manually. 3. lower the sun visors and open the two locking handles. 4. Standing beside the car: Grasp the black part of the top cover and pull up the cover. 5. Enter the car and kneel on the folded backrest. Start to pull up the top, using the opening at its leading edge. 7. stand on the lowered backrest and continue to pull on the leading edge of the top upwards to its maximum height. 8. Step down onto the floor of the car and pull the top upwards toward the windshield9. Standing beside the car, close the hard tonneau cover. 10. lower the rear window as far as possible. Note: When raising the top manually , the rear window cannot be fully locked in the hard tonneaus opening. A small gap will remain between the edge of the top and and the hard tonneau cover The top will be secured in that position by the electric motors resistance when the handle for manual top operation is raised.11. Press down the hard tonneau cover from from inside the rear seat and SIMULTANEOUSLY raise the the handle for manual top operation. 12. Secure the rear seat backrest in the raised position. 13. Sit in the front seat pull the top and pull the top down against the against the top of the windshield-do not pull the locking handles. Lock the top in place by closing the two handles.

My saab 9-3 2003 roof does not open. It says manual operation only. I have read that u need to lower the back seat with your key inserted somewhere under the rear seat headrest. What if I don't have the key bit is there any other way to fold down the seat?
