Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The cross pipe for the exhaust is in the way. We can't seem to shift the cover
out.

So, we are dropping the dust cover due to massive oil leak out of there while the truck is running. Any ideas what would cause such an oil leak?

Yes I do, it would be the rear main seal, your talking dropping the transmission, starter, flex plate, in order to get at it. Even with the motor out of the truck it is a bugger to get right so not to leak. They make one piece & a two piece seal. You would want the one piece seal. Four yrs. ago I built my motor for my 1995 Silverado, and happen to get an extra rear main seal, from dealer, it was $68 at the time. Did I mention the oil pan has to be dropped also?

Unless the oil is red then it is the front seal in the trany, which still would have to be dropped to fix.
