i have a pontiac g6 2007 and when i turn the stering wheel either wAY it makes this knocking noise under the dash.what is that noise

I had the same issue and it was the power steering module. Unfortunately it is a known issue with many of the G6 models, however the 07 wasn't listed on the recall and therefore wasn't covered under warranty. The repair had to be done at the dealership.
This sounds like an intermediate shaft on the steering colunm. Most GM's of this series suffered from it. The dealer will remove it and grease it but that only is a temporary fix. It needs to have the redesigned shaft installed that they'll only do after repeated complaints. A simple design flaw that they won't cover unless you elevate the complaint - saving money and loosing customers the corporate way. The good news is there is no functional problem, only an annoyance.
