What could I have done wrong

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My vehicle was sluggish going uphill in an attempt
to figure it out we decided to try checking
something out. We loosened up a bolt on a mesh
filter looking thing between the exhaust and
catalytic converter but the bolt stripped so we did
not attempt to take it out. We put the nut back on
and left it alone but after starting it up it now
sounds like a souped up street car and is loud. I
don't much about exhaust systems obviously so
any help on this would be greatly appreciated as it
is attracting unwanted attention.

I would take it to a muffler shop so they can repair the exhaust leak you created.

Exhaust leak??? Sounds like an expensive fix. Any rough estimate on how much it should cost? I know a lot these shops in Salem Oregon will try their hardest to rip someone off.

I doubt it is a big deal. You probably damaged the seal between the two exhaust pipes.
