Hello Holmesbennie-- According to the VIN on your 1995 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, the eighth digit (P) indicates the LT1 engine. That engine was also one of two engine options for the Corvette in 1995. Good luck from Bovan.
The 1995 Camaro Z28 Original Engine Was Derived From The Corvette And passed Down The Chevy Production Line to The Camaro And the Pontiac Trans Am, In 1995 the engine was a 5.7 Liter V8 called the LT1, The LS1 Also derived from the Corvette was not available in the Camaro Or Trans Am Until 1998.
what the difference in a LT and LS?
The LS1 is a gen 3 engine, while the LT is a gen 2. The LT1/4 are basically old school chevrolet small block 350CI engines, with reverse cooled heads, allowing for higher compression ratios. Together with what is basically a miniram intake with short runners, the LT1 combined the best of all worlds for the older engine. Lots of torque but still breathes well in the upper rpm range. The LS1 changed everything, with cathederal style ports in the heads, and a brand new restyled block, it was a completely new engine. The heads being the biggest reason the LS is such a popular engine, as they flow very well which allows for large amounts of power out of a small package.
