Replacing 96 S10 blazer awd transmission

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hello, my daughters 96 Chevy blazer awd just started to lose 2nd gear.
Revs real high until you let off gas and will shift. Fluid stinks to high heavan
although it doesn't look bad. Can you just replace the transmission with
any 4x4 s10 blazer transmission? Will they mount up similarily or is it a
specailized transmission? It only has 93000 miles on it and is super clean, i
hate to junk it.

Only 96 and 97 will work. They must be 4x4 configuration. Your transmission is called a 4l60e
So guys, the regular 4x4 Transmission should mount up ok to the AWD system? That is basically what i am wondering. I can get a blazer with a year old gm transmission for 200 bucks but it is a regular 4x4 blazer not an AWD blazer.
Ya, awd is done on the transfer case. For transmissions sake 4x4 and awd will be the same
Thank You! I was hoping that was the case. The 4x4 are cheap and plentiful around me. Most are rotted out and not able to be inspected. With scrap yards paying nothing you can get good deals for parts rig.
Do you know if it is the same for a 95 suburban? What years would fit that? I have one with the floor shift 4 wheel drive. My son was driving it and it sprung a leak in the tranny line. Didn't take long to cook it.
The 95 trans is a 1 off year. Only another 95 will work.
Well that figures. Seems like everything i buy is a royal pain in the backside....
