Is the water pump housed with the timing chain. How many quarts of oil does the car take.

I have been thinking of taking a long trip and would like to be proactive with my car. Need to
know if the water pump is housed with the timing chain. Also am doing my first oil change.
How many quarts of oil does it hold and is it ok to use 15W Rotella instead of 5w?

First oil change? It's a new to you car maybe? You can use 15W but it will start a little slower. You will want to read the link I post and carry a couple extra quarts of oil in the trunk. No sayin' all Prizms are oil users but better safe than sorry. http://community.cartalk.com/discussion/2277646/my-1999-chevy- prizm-may-be-an-oily-lemon
No not the first oil change, it's the second. Just heard that 15W40 Rotella was a much better oil than 5W30 for the miles on my car. I have 122919 miles on it. Will read your link. Thank you very much. Have a wonderful day.
The thicker oil will be used at a lesser rate. I think Rotella is on sale at a couple national parts store chains.
Tenspeed you mentioned that the thicker oil will be used at a lesser rate. Is that a good thing? I am so sorry to be so ignorant, but just getting started on working on cars and am trying to learn. Thank you for all your help.
Yes, it's a good thing. You don't have to replace it as often. As engines age, the rings around the pistons wear, oil slips by and is burned. The thicker oil is less likely to slip by and it stays in the engine where it belongs.
Thank you so much for your help and your patience.
4.2 quarts with filter
Can I put 15w40 oil in my 2001 GEO Prism car
