how do i replace a rear light assembly on a 2000 chevy malibu, i have the assembly off the car but how do i detach the wires

If I remember correctly there are either 10mm nuts inside the trunk or just wing nuts. Either way inside the trunk behind the carpet liner around the trunk

thanks but as I said I have done that part........it was getting the wires out, you have to lift the side clips. Turns out Sears had done a bad job of wiring........the wires had actually just pulled apart given they were twisted with 1/4 bare wire each.......amazing, will never go to Sears again

I'm sorry. All the Malibus I had the tail light out of had a plug, it was a pain to get off but a screw driver under the clips usually helps. If I remember correctly it is toward the center of the car with the lights in the car. Hope that's more helpful they were terrible about blowing bulbs and getting corroded sockets.
