Thoughts on Lucas Oil "Transmission Fix"?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2000 Impala has 225,000 miles on it. I bought from someone who said
they took care of it, but they really abused it. I have it almost restored to
factory condition, but the transmission fluid has never been changed
before. It is a tan color and doesn't smell too bad. I was wanting to do a
complete flush to get all of the fluid out of the torque converter and
everything. I'm just very worried that when I change the fluid, the
transmission is going to crap out on me. I've heard of it happening before
because of the worn clutch material. I'm thinking of just putting some of that
"Transmission Fix" in it. It shifts fine and everything, its just when it goes in
reverse (warm or not) the car kind of bangs into reverse and it shakes but
when it is engaged, it seems fine. The drive gears are okay, it just seems a
little hesitant to go from 2nd to 3rd. I've heard of people changing their fluid
and it fixing things like this, but I was very afraid to because I didn't want my
transmission to just quit on me. What should I do?

225,000 consider a transmission change, check on a low mileage salvage trans too... Lucas is kinda of a joke.. look up all the lab research on Miracle oil claims.

Thanks. I'm not a person who believes in "snake oil" things. I didn't know if it was a real thing or if it was just a marketing joke.

At 225,000 there is nothing that will restore a trany with that many miles on it other than a rebuild. Yea, some miracle juices have their place, an most a waist of money but preventive maintenance is the best policy. And never do a transmission flush. Only causes problems. The only thing I would do with yours is to just drop the pan, replace the trany filter and fill back up with fluid. Keep in mind your on the end of that tranys life span.

Yeah I thought it was going out. I don't really have the time nor money to get it repaired either. I'm thinking of just selling it before it gets too bad. I'm currently look at 2010-2011 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors as a replacement. I heard they are great cars! They're pretty cheap too!!

Lucas transmission fix is an oil thickener with some additives in it. It may make things work a little longer in a transmission that needs replaced or rebuilt. It is a bandaid fix at best and I personally wouldn't use it.

Yeah I found a couple of possibilities that look like thy're in great condition. They have low miles too, less than 100,000. They are both going for around $7,000 but I bet I can get them down to $6,000 or so. We'll see after I figure out what I want to do with the Impala first.
