Dodge transmission

I have a 99 dodge cummins with auto
transmission. I had it built about 20,000 miles ago.
When I first start it, it will not shift into second.
Once it does finely shift 1/4 mile to 10 miles, it will
never miss a lick. It will shift perfect on 100 take
offs after the first initial shift. But if I shut the truck
off and start it back up it does the same thing even
if I only shut it off for a second. Any suggestions
on what it could be?

Some transmission techs believe in changing the fluid at about 1,000 miles after a rebuilt and I am one of those. I prefer synthetic transmission if you decide this may help with your truck. You may want to take a look at the shift solenoid as well
