I think my ECU is failing?

Asked by Duncan Aug 25, 2020 at 02:52 PM about the 2003 Chevrolet S-10 LS Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

List of symptoms in my 2003 Chevy s-10 zr5. Suspicious that my ECU is
failing, but wanted a second opinion:

ABS and brake warning lights sometimes on during start-up, sometimes not.
All symptoms are noticeably worse while warning lights on.
Occasional stutter while idling
Engine sometimes seems to "slip" while accelerating, especially uphill
Loss of power
Running the A/C creates additional slips and loss of power, excess
condensation on condensation line. (A/C is charged correctly and blows cold
air)

Anybody seen this before? Suspicious that my ECU is failing and I also may
need to replace my belt and/or my A/C compressor.

Since the warning lights are on, that means there are trouble codes stored. scan the vehicle for the OBDii trouble codes. Any auto part store can do it for free.

The ABS and brake warning lights on together are telling us you have a problem with the ABS that's affecting the dynamic stability of the vehicle. The ABS has its own computer and must be scanned for trouble codes when the lights are on. Each time the engine is shut off the ABS computer is cleared. As for the other problems, when was your last tune up? You should get a tune up every 30 months or 30,000 miles on this engine. Hope that helps! Jim
