Check charging system
I have 2006 Ford Taurus SEL and this morning all of a sudden the Check
charging system light came on and battery, i take it to Auotzone who checked
and said its alternator. Can someone advise me, i hate cars when they play up.

Start the car disconnect the positive cable while running if it dies it is a bad alternator.

No an alternator puts out 14.5 amps not volts to maintain a good battery and recharge it. Disconnecting it for a second does raise the output of amperage just as a dead battery jumped would and it is only for a second to see if the engine dies. If it is a suspected bad alternator to be replaced it wouldn't hurt to see if it is bad this way. The only thing it could hurt is the internal voltage regulator and this would take more than a second to burn up in this test as most are between 60 and 100 amp. rather than replace something why not see if it is putting out. Not my first rodeo either.
