351 motor

Asked by stemat Jul 20, 2015 at 11:51 AM about the 1994 Ford F-250 2 Dr XLT 4WD Extended Cab LB

Question type: General

I have a 351 engine in my F250 4x4. It's got nothing for towing power. When towing my UTV and trailer it's terrible. I'm not worried about gas mileage heck I'm only getting 10 now, probably why they came with 2 tanks. What is good larger motor to put in this and would I have to change tranny's? Would changing cams to a RV cam help in any way?

Making some changes to the existing engine would help. Cam, cylinder heads, headers will all make more power.

Bob, thanks for the info. I think doing what you suggested will also save me some cash. Is there some type of a over drive system I could get installed? Steve

Overdrive likely won't do anything for towing. Either rebuild and modify the existing engine or consider getting a replacement vehicle.
