I have a 2004 Chevy Classic and I was at a stop light when suddenly my gas gauge went from 3/4 full to Empty for about 3-5 seconds then it went back to normal. Is this a symptom of a failing fuel pump or a failing ignition switch?

Neither. More than likely it has something to do with the sending unit in the gas tank.
