Fan clutch assembly

Asked by ChevyT12155 Oct 14, 2018 at 08:57 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Chevy trailblazer LA 4.2 liter i6 2wd
with optional 4wd. Turn ignition on fan
automatically comes on and never shuts off
until ignition is turned off. Slight vibration at
idle. Code for cooling fan malfunction and a
fan speed high code. I'm told I need to
replace the fan clutch. Based off of what I've
described is this true?

Yep, it's true, and very very common. Sounds like an airplane taking off, I know it's loud. While you're in there, would be a great idea to replace the water pump too. Very easy with simple hand tools.

My water pump broke, bought a new electric clutch fan too. After installing it the clutch never disengaged. Sound just like you described. Higher rpm = more noise. Took to a garage and they charged me $900 to diagnose and put another one in. worked 75% better for a week then back to engaged all the time.
