Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was wondering if there is another car style engine that would fit into mine and
match up? Prices for engines are very high. NO I'M NOT GIVING IT UP! MY
HUSBAND BUT THIS CAR FOR ME AND I WANT TO KEEP IT.... The car is
very precious to me!

Cobalts are everywhere. Shouldn't be too hard to find a reasonably priced 2.2 out of a Cobalt to put into yours. Shop around. Most auto wreckers will have several, if not dozens of them sitting in their warehouse and will be glad to see one go. Don't be afraid to make a lower offer when they quote you something. Just make sure its the same engine for the same year or it will not fit or will cost a fortune to make fit.

Do you mean like a salvage yard? I was told not to even try those due to they'd charge me way to much for an engine that may not run?

They test all engines before they take them out. They only keep and sell the ones that are good. Most reputable salvage yards will include a short warranty. Remember if it came out of a wrecked car, the car was probably running fine when it crashed. Shop around for prices and don’t be afraid to offer less. These cars are getting pretty old and there’s not much demand for the engines because the cost of getting them put in can exceed the value of the car.
