Bad VSS?

Asked by Bryguy24 Mar 30, 2017 at 10:26 AM about the 2004 Toyota Camry LE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 04 Camry, about 170,000 miles on it. Just
the other day I was driving and it seemed to stop
accelerating, pushed the gas and just revved.
Pulled over, shut it down for about 5 mins and tried
it again, worked fine and got it home. Next morning
worked well for half of the day then same issue but
even worse. Did same "fix" shut it down and it
worked short lived. Check engine light came on
and it stayed parked for the night. This morning
had plans to go to parts store to get codes but the
car won't move at all, reverse, drive, 2nd, or low.
Was thinking might be the VSS but was hoping for
additional insight. Thanks

Sounds like a transmission issue. Pull the tyranny dip stick. Feel...smell the fluid. Does it feel gritty? Does the fluid smell burnt? Wipe the stick clean and start her up. Warm her up in park or neutral. Put the clean DS back in and withdraw. Does the fluid level line up with ...full?
