My 2003 Subaru Outback is at 227,000 miles how long it will drive for?

Asked by subaruWolfe444 Feb 10, 2020 at 10:22 PM about the 2003 Subaru Outback L.L. Bean Edition Wagon

Question type: General

It needs about $1000 worth of work, transmission mount and new cv joint.
Should I keep putting money in, or sell it?

If the rest of the car is in top shape you might get your money's worth from those repairs but I doubt it is worth spending the money.

2000-2004 Leg/OB unibodies rot at the rear quarters, both up the wheel eyeballs and, more critically, down where they meet the rockers, reducing structural integrity...especially when hitting potholes at speed. I'd have a thorough underbody inspection performed to ensure you're not just bolting new parts onto crumbling soft steel. By the way, a tranny mount and a new (aftermarket) CV should cost in the $400 range...not $1k. If you haven't drained and refilled the 4EAT in a few years I'd certainly perform that cheapie just to keep it happy. Use 10w40 to quench minor seepage, but if your #4 cylinder corner is wet with coolant know that the HGs are compromised, so you're on the death curve with this dinosaur regardless of body corrosion, eh? Best, Ern TSG/B
