Gas smell that now smoked so bad on the left side of the motor ( fuel line side )

if you smelled raw fuel, you definetly have a fuel leak and likely averted an engine fire. Have the car towed to a garage for a proper repair. Most likely a new fuel hose or line is in your future.

Hang on! 2000-2009 motors use hard fuel rails EXCEPT where they attach to the motor on each side via 2" rubber connector hoses, the clamps of which can loosen, or the hoses themselves get too brittle and crack, and when especially cold, will drip gas onto the intake header. This starts as only a couple of drops of fuel, and ceases as the connections warm up and self-seal. But eventually ya have to tighten the clamps and/or replace the short rubber hoses. Simple, but annoying job as you have to get your hands and needle-nose pliers in there. If you're handly you can do this easily. So next time you start the car cold look for a drip at either (or both!) short connector hoses. It'll save you a PITA tow and time. Screw-tighten ring clamps may be better than squeeze-clamps, by the way. Ern TSG/B
