Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 1996 subaru, sta. wgn. automatic, the battery was dead, and i proceded
to jump start it, but it would"t start or even turn over. and in fact the inside
lights didn"t even come on. but with the jumpers hooked up i tried to start it
anyway.
to no avail. and i called a towing svc. but the guy had a rollback and could't
help me because it's ad\n all wheel drive and it would not go out of park, my
question is how can I get it out of park? does the electrical system have to
be working to get it out of park, or is there some other way?
