Too much power going to the battery

Too much power going to the battery
so much it started to melt negative
side where terminals go it is a 1990
c4 corvette replaced alternator
already any thoughts

Locate an L1 tech call around an extreme draw (amps) on the ground side indicates a problem on the positive side check the + cable for an almost direct ground and the starter is very suspect with the proper skill set and a DMM this is a 15-30 minutes diagnostic.
