how do you reset the check engine light on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8 engine?

had a tune up and replace the filler
neck

this worked for me a few times, may not work all the time,, insert key into ignition, with ignition off pump gas padel 5 times, crank car, light out

did not work this time. so i took pos. terminal off battery, held ignition in start position for at least 30 seconds reture ignition to off position, connect pos. cable onto post of battery, crank car, light stayed off, good luck
