Front drivers side window all of the sudden will not open or close.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Grand Am... Not sure if it is a SE or SE1 coupe its a 4 door
with the spoiler on the trunk.        Front drivers side window all of the sudden
will not open or close,it was fine one day and then the next day nothing. All
of the other windows ( drivers side back and passenger front and back ) will
open and close. WHAT IS IT?   THE RELAY OR MOTOR OR SWITCH?
BECAUSE i REALLY DON'T WANT TO JUST START REPLACING PARTS
IF IT ISN'T A CERTAIN ON.  IT COULD GET EXPENSIVE AND NEED IT
FIXED BUT HAVE LITTLE MONEY TO KEEP GUESSING.

First, if you can measure voltage with a meter or probe, test the fuse, door connector, switch and motor by determining if voltage is applied through each part. The fuse is easy and can be pulled out and looked at or metered to determine continuity. The others are a little more difficult because they would have to have some level of disassembly done to the door panel. Trace to determine where you are losing voltage to the motor. If all checks good, it is your window motor. (You can also do this in reverse by starting at the motor connector and working backwards.)
