Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had been taking the car to the mechanic with the same syntoms; it cranks very well
but wount start. He replace the oxigen sensor becuase check engine light was off and
it was detected that sensor was malfunction. The car started doing the same thing but
few days later started again on his own and the sensor light stays light up again.
Before the last time this happened the car was taking to the mechanic via towing truck
as soon as we got there, the car started like nothing ever happened. I reach the
conclusion that the fact the car was moved while in towing truck, the problem is the
fuel pump. The mechanic discard the fuel pump as been the problem instead replace
the oxigen sensor. Two days ago the car started doing the same and today started like
nothing ever happened.  Dirving me crazy!   Any idea?

A bad o2 sensor will not stop it from starting. I would find another mechanic.

Bob is right. It's in open loop at start up anyway, meaning the signals from the 02 sensors are ignored.

I think an OBDII scan is called for here. Many parts houses will do it free, and eliminate guesswork. But before you buy anything...the parts guys will sell you electrical parts that can't be returned, bring the codes back here..they will be a P followed by four numbers. Then one of us will be happy to help you... or you can Google "Ford OBD Pxxxx" and click on www.obd-codes.com/ for causes and possible solutions (Your Mercury is a Ford)

Correct, don't buy parts just based on a code scan at a parts house.
