1996 Audi B5 A4 2.8 Quattro won't start..ideas?

Asked by Haley Jun 08, 2016 at 09:09 PM about the 1996 Audi A4 2.8 quattro Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car broke down and sat for 1 month. I
neglected to start it during this time also.
Today I had the ball joints and control arms
replaced, which was the only problem
besides a dead battery. Mechanic charged
the battery after fixing those issues, and my
car now won't start. Never had an issue with
this before.  It cranks but has no spark. Any
ideas??

The best way to narrow it down is to scan it with a vag-com,in the mean time, find someone in your area with a vag-com that would scan your car for a small fee,or ask your mechanic to do it.

Thanks.I can't seem to find any mechanics around that know much about foreign cars so it's difficult. I rented a code reader from a local auto store, the guy said he thinks it should work. Mass air flow censor is coming up on it, does that sound like something that would cause this problem?

Yes possible, the MAF is one of the main signals to the computer that controls the fuel ratio 14.7 ideally. A dirty or "bad" MAF will effect economy as well as performance. Most times I don't expect a NO start from a MAF. Regards

Your throttle body needs to a alignment since your battery died. A year to late I know but maybe it will help another. Need a VAG com scanner or VCDS is better. Takes like 30 seconds. After alignment she'll start right up. Alignment just tells the ECM what position the throttle body is in wide open or shut.
