1999 jeep grand Cherokee stalling rough idol now won't start. PCM? Fuel pump? Electrical issues. HELP!

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Please help! I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 4.7L. I bought it at and
auction in Sacramento California couple months back. They said it had an
electrical issue possibly. As soon as I hit the first stop sign after pulling off the
lot the car idled out and died. I swapped out the battery and it started right up
and worked fine, drove all the way back to SF. Diagnoses~ bad battery.

But Ive been driving it for months and I can tell its has a rough idle, sometimes
it would stall out when coming to a stop. Also noticed the alarm would go off
randomly after unlocking and opening the door. Long story short I let the car
sit for 4 days. Got back in and drove down the street. It stalled out and died at
the first turn.

I thought the battery must be bad again so I grabbed a different battery from a
bmw and headed over to put it in. It was late and I couldn’t see much so I
accidentally attached it to the wrong terminals. SMOKE. I saw I had burned
straight threw one of the two wires connecting to the fuse box. I spliced new
wire and reconnected to the fuse box terminal. No start. Same thing.

Now the car sits in my driveway and im trying to trouble shoot it. it cranks but
won’t turn over. thought the rough idle may be the air intake valve so I blasted
that and the sensor clean. Installed new battery. No start. Same thing.

I also notice the cabin top light isn’t going on, just the door lights and door
switches plus when the car is completely turned off with no key the windows
roll down…..what? So I thought maybe this is the pcm issue ive been seeing
online. Something wrong with the computer maybe because I do believe this is
an electrical issue. i also replaced what looked to be like a blown ASD fuse but
now no blown fuses. I also installed an aftermarket sound system amp and
subs but this was after the stalling issue. but I have since disconnected that.

I have very little money and im moving in a week or so, so I HAVE to get this
fixed of ill have to call it a total loss. I also have another 2001 jeep grand
Cherokee v8 4.7l ive been taking parts from to fix this jeep. I pulled out both
pcms and inspected them, thinking I may swap them but I figure the 2001 has
to be reconfigured? Don’t have money for that. So long story short my jeep
won’t turn over, has some kind of electrical issue and im not too sure what to
do.. thought id reach out. Also the positive terminal wiring is somewhat
corroded but that wouldn’t explain why the windows roll down when the cars
completely shut off.. any advice helps.. thank you world…

I would have to guess it is the PCM. You know these Jeeps self diagnose. Without starting the motor, turn the key from Off to On three times and stop at On. Fault codes will show at the odometer display in sequence. Then it will show "done". Google the numbers and see. Good Luck or send it back to the auction.

I unplugged & cleaned connection to my crankshaft position sensor with an eraser (do not scrape terminals or use solvents) and plugged it back in and started working perfect again
