replaced radiator,in a jeep grand cherokee ,all hoses and conections are right but now engine runs hot [ 220 deg. ] and rising what might cause this? a bubble in the engine th. thermostat worked before?

new radiator installed in a jeep to fix a coolant leak. all hoses and connections are correct  
but now engine is running hot with new radiator installed [220 deg.+]  the thermostat
worked before..  i'm stumped

Run it without the thermostat and if it does not run hot, it would be one of two things: 1.) thermostat installed backwards; 2.) bad thermostat
