I have a 2004 gmc Yukon xl 2500 6.0l that i can't
find the fuel filter. I've looked all along the fuel lines
between the front tank and the engine along the
frame rail, between the rear tank and the main
tank, and even in the engine compartment. The
only place i can't see is on top of one of the fuel
tanks maybe, but i don't want to just take the
tank(s) down just to find out that it's not up there.  I
bought the new filter, it's an inline filter. Please
help?

Thanks Mark, that's what i figured. There's nothing wrong with the fuel filter but i just wanted to change it since i just bought the vehicle and i don't know when it has last been changed. Others have told me the same thing, that it may be in the sending unit/fuel pump assembly in the tank and also that it may be unservicesble. I also read that some guy who had the same setup said he had to add some sorta additive four times a year to help keep this fuel filter cleaned out. I hope i don't have to do that?

    Has anyone had fuel gauge go out? My instrument panel says low fuel and the gas needle won't go above the "E". It is a Yukon xl 2003, just hit 160,000 on miles. Could it be the gas cap?
