Dust shield for the brakes right? anyway I have a few ideas that it might be. Wheel bearing, did you give the wheel a good shake from side to side and top to bottom? Tone ring for abs might be cracked and is scraping around. CV boot might be rubbing or is loose making noise. And last but not least and hopefully it's not CV joint. Good Luck!

Check the drive shaft and see if the shield around it is rubbing on it

Does it only make the noise when the vehicle is rolling? When brakes applied? If when rolling check the hub bearings, if equipped in that year, the 2003 has them.

It only makes the noise when you go around a curve I just replaced Lee hub on the passenger side but it still makes the noise

My 03 explorer v8 makes a grinding noise from front axle shafts while accelerating around a turn from a stop. Also, once I hit 45+ the grinding/ humming noise comes back. This noise persists whether I'm accelerating, decelerating, or coasting. I have replaced the rotors, pads, all 4 bearings, and tires. The noises persist. Also, I have noticed that while jacked up and all four wheels in the air. The rear tires spin like normal but the front drivers tire spins as well but at a slightly slower speed. Likewise, the front passenger tire also spins but at a much slower speed. This is not normal especially since I have disabled the 4x4 auto function by conducting the brown wire mod. I think it is the transfer case or the U joints for the front axles.

Is there anyway to disable the transfer case?? Also, if I disconnect the front drive shaft, will this tell me anything? I feel like it may still make the noise because the mechanics inside the transfer case will still spin when driving. I am kind of lost. The upper and lower joints seem fine. The tie rods are in great condition. The truck has had the humming/grinding noise for the past 20K miles and has gotten worse. When I am driving the truck, the noise seems to originate from the rear. When I am in the passenger seat while driving, the noise seems to come directly from the transfer case (directly underneath the cup holders. The grinding noise while accelerating around turns just started happening recently.
