hello, I have had a 97 MONTE CARLO for about 20 years. I rebuilt the engine about 8 years ago. Even before I rebuilt 3.4 engine, I to was having overheating coming and going. Apparently GM had problems with 3.4 engines overheating. It really ticked me off. Heat Guage up and down everytime I drove the car. What I did and found out by accident is there is an Air Bubble that gets caught up in Thermostat Housing. I ended up buying was a top end Thermostat . And I haven't had any problems since. Guage will go up once in a while but always comes down quickley.
