I am replacing the lower oil pan on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited.

Do I need to use both a gasket as well as a layer of silicone or can I just use
silicone?

The best is just use the gasket with a touch of gasket adhesive, just enough to hold the gasket in place. Silicone can cause the gasket to push out then you have a leak. If your dead set on using only silicone then use what is called the Right Stuff.
